Andaman and Nicobar Archipelago

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is consist of natural wealthy archipelago located between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, that is incorporated with several tropical islands of natural beauty and bio diversity. Most of the area of the islands is lush evergreen and covered with forests and Sea water.

The cross-cultural interactions can be visible there as the people residing there can be identified as traditional tribal communities and the migrant people who have settled there. The traditional tribal communities of the Andaman including Jarawa in South and Middle Andaman, the Shompen on Nicobar and indigenous Onge of Andaman are segregated and living their secluded lifestyles as per the available resources.

Sentinel

The native tribal community is the North Sentinel island is remaining as the only indigenous group that resides without formal contact with the outside world. Their seclusion (the state of being private and away from other people) and perceived isolation hostility is a matter of curiosity and concern for rest of the world. The Sentinel Island and the indigenous Tribal native are currently facilitated by the strict no-contact policy of Government of India. The islanders are clearly extremely healthy but they are living with peacefulness, quietness, lack of disturbance, lack of interruption, freedom from interference of outsiders just due to their immunity and separate existance issue.

Role of NGOs in Development of Andaman and Nicobar Islands area

In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands the challenges and issue of humanitarian, ecological and social development, environment conservation and sustainable development interventions are there. The Non Governmental Organisations are playing vital role of the positive change makers to strengthen the socio-economical, educational, health status and cultural issues for human advancement.
The social, economical, educational and cultural status of the natives tribals and poor people of Andaman Nicobar Islands are at the priority based issue for development and and conservation along with the conservation and protection of present environmental maintenance. NGOs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are working to eradicate and liberate the tribal and other backward communities who are residing there in deprived socio-economic conditions. The NGOs have been working with aims and objectives to improve and develop socio-economic, health, educational status and cultural prominence of the deprived native Islanders and the weaker section of the society of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Development and Welfare Requirements in Nicobar and Andaman Islands

NGOs have been working in the Islands of Nicobar and Andaman with aim to address issues of contemporary significance to the islands to resolve the diverse and regular social-ecological strata and issues. NGOs are working with certain visions and goals for the welfare of local communities by independent interventions, collaborations and facilitation with the help of supporters, funding agencies and Government ministries. The strategies based requirement of development is much more there in comparison to the present development process that is going on to improve the status of communities and the area. The major role for development and welfare of the communities and the area is based on the result oriented process of Government as it is performing to fulfill the the prior needs accordingly. The initiatives and engagements of the social development organisations have been resulted in change making process and development and is required more to fulfill the needs of development of the Islanders and the Islands.
